Colégio Príncipes de Aviz is a small private colégio in São João do Estoril for children aged 3 to 10, in pré-escolar and 1.º ciclo.
It follows the Portuguese national curriculum, with firm foundations in Portuguese, maths and Estudo do Meio. Alongside that runs an integrated bilingual English programme: the school says subjects such as PE, music, drama and robotics are taught in English, and that pré-escolar brings English in through songs, stories and daily routines. Learning is organised through projects. Yoga and a vegetable garden are part of the week, and swimming at the Alapraia pool is an extra, with transport provided by the school.
Good to know for international families
The core subjects are taught in Portuguese, with a large share of English. That makes it one of the gentler Portuguese options for an English-speaking child, but it is not an English-medium international school.
