Salesianos de Manique is a Catholic colégio in Manique de Baixo, Alcabideche, run by the Salesian congregation. It teaches from 1.º ano to 12.º ano. At secundário it offers three academic tracks: Ciências e Tecnologias, Ciências Socioeconómicas and Ciências Sociais e Humanas. The school says each course needs at least 26 pupils to run.
English follows the Cambridge English curriculum from 1.º ano, with Cambridge certification. 1.º ciclo runs from 8h25 to 16h45.
The campus is well equipped for sport: two heated pools opened in 2011 (with a swimming school), a gym, a sports hall and judo. There is a canteen, a snack bar and a nurse’s office.
Good to know for international families
Teaching is in Portuguese. The school has an English page on its website, but it does not describe extra Portuguese support for children who are new to the language, so ask the school.
Cascais council lists Salesianos de Manique as a private school with a contrato de associação for 2.º ciclo, 3.º ciclo and secundário. These contracts let the state fund places at a private school. By law, pupils in those places attend on the same terms as at a state school, and the school must make clear that teaching is free. Ask the school whether a place in your child’s year is covered, and what optional services cost.
