The summer break in Portugal is long. Children at public primary schools finish on 30 June 2027, and older pupils finish earlier in June. The next school year starts in mid-September. Here’s how to fill some of those weeks.
We only give 2027 dates and fees where the organiser has published them. For everyone else, we link to their 2026 programme so you know what to expect, and you can check back.
When the summer holidays start
For public schools, the official calendar sets the last day of 2026/27 by year group:
- Friday 4 June 2027 for 9.º, 11.º and 12.º ano
- Friday 11 June 2027 for 5.º, 6.º, 7.º, 8.º and 10.º ano
- Wednesday 30 June 2027 for pré-escolar and 1.º ciclo
Private and international schools set their own dates. For all the holidays in the year, see our school holidays and childcare guide.

Planning your summer
A few things help:
- Start with your own school’s last day, then count the weeks to September.
- Leave some quieter weeks at home between camps.
- Ask each camp about lunch, transport and the language the camp is run in.
If you want something regular once school starts again, see our guide to kids’ activities in Cascais. We’ll keep this page up to date as 2027 dates come out, so you can plan your family’s summer with confidence.
