Ericeira is a lovely place to raise children, but it’s worth knowing early that there’s no full international school in Ericeira town. Families in the Ericeira area, which for us means Ericeira and the wider Mafra municipality, usually choose between a few options.

  • An international school nearby, with a school bus. Escola Internacional de Torres Vedras (EITV) is in Torres Vedras and Hypha International School is in Colares, Sintra. Both are outside Mafra municipality, but both run buses from Ericeira.
  • A Portuguese colégio. There are private colégios across Mafra, teaching in Portuguese. One of them, Colégio Miramar, is free.
  • A local nursery for younger children. The ones listed here are Portuguese-speaking.
  • An alternative or forest-school option. These are in a separate box below, because most aren’t conventional schools.

Brave Generation Academy also has a hub in Ericeira. It’s an online school with a local study space, not a conventional school, so read its profile carefully.

We leave out state schools and the non-profit (IPSS) nurseries run by local charities. Every school, colégio and nursery here has its own profile with the facts we could confirm on its own website or on an official register. Where something isn’t published, we say so.

Last checked: 24 October 2026. Fees are shown only where the school publishes them, with the school year.

Coming later: Telos Academy

Telos Academy is a planned international school near Ericeira. Its own roadmap says it plans to open for the 2029/30 school year and that these timelines are indicative. It isn’t open, so it’s not in the lists below.

Frequently asked questions

Is there an international school in Ericeira?

Not a full one. There's no international school with its own campus in Ericeira town. Brave Generation Academy has a study hub there, but it's an online school, not a conventional one. The two nearest international schools, EITV in Torres Vedras and Hypha in Colares (Sintra), are outside Mafra municipality but run buses from Ericeira.

How do children get from Ericeira to EITV or Hypha?

Both schools run transport from Ericeira. For 2026/2027, EITV lists its Ericeira bus route at €209 a month over 10 months, and Hypha lists €200 per child per month, which needs a minimum number of children and a full-year commitment. Check the current details with each school.

Are the Portuguese colégios near Ericeira free?

Some are. Colégio Miramar in Santo Isidoro says teaching is free at every level from 5.º to 12.º ano, with places first for its catchment area. At Colégio Santo André, secondary is free and 1.º to 9.º ano is fee-paying. The others charge fees, and most don't publish them.

Is a new international school opening near Ericeira?

Telos Academy says on its own roadmap that it plans to open for the 2029/30 school year, on a site near Ericeira, and that its timelines are indicative. It isn't open yet, so we don't list it as a school.
